Maybe you’ve had to give up your favorite hobbies like biking, golf or tennis. If so, it might be time to consider Joint replacement. The Southwestern Medical Center knows that you have a choice of where to have your surgery, and receive your care, so we have developed the Joint Center to bring together all of your needs, and walk with you as we work to Put you back in motion.

The joint Center at Southwestern offers comprehensive care to joint replacement patients. We feature:

  • Preoperative patient and family education
  • Streamlined registration and admission processes
  • Individualized physical and occupational therapy
  • Enhanced pain management
  • Focused multidisciplinary approach to Joint replacement care

The Joint Center is dedicated to providing the highest level of care at all stages of the joint replacement process. We join with you as soon as your physician determines the need for a joint replacement, and we walk with you through preoperative education, registration, admission, surgery, post surgical care, the transition home, and your post hospital therapy needs. We take a well patient approach to our care, focusing on early mobility, excellent pain control, and shortened hospital stays. Our patients walk the day of their surgery, and most go home the next day. Of Course each patient is different, but our goal is for you to recover in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

We believe that comprehensive preoperative education empowers our patient and their family to be prepared for their hospital stay and to feel strong ownership in their recovery and return to a normal lifestyle. Our preoperative Joint classes our available to patients and family, and present an overview of your hospital stay, introductions to our staff, a look into your surgery, and help you prepare for your time with us.

We encourage all patients to identify a family member or loved one to be a patient coach while in the hospital, and as you return home after surgery. Your coach is invited to attend the preoperative joint class with you, and can be present for your in hospital education and therapy as you prepare to go home.
