(Lawton, OK) – For 110 years, Southwestern Medical Center has kept the pace for providing current, quality healthcare for Southwest Oklahoma. SWMC is excited to celebrate this milestone year with the community later this month.
Much has changed since the hospital’s humble beginnings in 1907 as Lawton’s first civilian hospital. First known as Turner and Lewis Private Hospital and training School for Nurses, Dr. Turner and Dr. Lewis began the endeavor of providing exceptional care to the community that continues today. The current location houses 199 beds, 187 more than it began with in 1907.
“We are excited about where we started and what is to come,” stated Randy Butler, Interim CEO. “Since celebrating our 105th birthday in 2012, we have added a telemetry monitoring system for heart patients, an outpatient surgery center and purchased the Imaging Center, a diagnostic imaging facility. We have significant, upcoming strategies and hope the next five years are filled with even more innovations so the community can continue to receive quality care, right here in Lawton.”
In April 2017, Southwestern Medical Center became an affiliate with St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, joining sixteen other Oklahoma hospitals and providing their patients access to specialty services not otherwise available locally.
Southwestern Medical Center invites the public to celebrate their significant achievement of serving the community and Southwest Oklahoma for 110 years. The celebration will take place on October 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with cake and refreshments at the hospital, 5602 SW Lee Boulevard.
