April Marks National Minority Health Month
April 19, 2024

April marks National Minority Health Month (NMHM), a designation meant to raise awareness about the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minority communities and reducing health disparities.
At Southwestern Medical Center, we believe in equitable care for every patient who comes through our doors seeking better health, regardless of race, gender or creed. One of the six components of our parent company’s national quality program is focused on health equity, a challenge directly tied to low income ‒ a financial status disproportionately held by racial and ethnic minorities.
Our ongoing efforts to support minority health include health education, community collaboration and internal assessments to identify any healthcare disparities and address them. And because so many of the root causes of health inequity and disparities evolve around income, each year our hospital provides $9.3 million of healthcare services to those who could otherwise not afford it.
During National Minority Health Month and every month, Southwestern Medical Center believes everyone ‒ regardless of race or income ‒ deserves the opportunity to access proper healthcare services and lead a healthy life.
