Southwestern Medical Center Welcomes New General Surgeon, Dr. Andrew Stevens
December 16, 2024
General surgeon Andrew Stevens, M.D., today joined the Southwestern General Surgery practice, part of Southwestern Medical Center. The Ada resident brings more than 20 years of experience to the practice and specializes in procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, gastrointestinal obstructions, general and advanced laparoscopic procedures, hernia repair and more.
He returns to Oklahoma after working from 2006 to 2022 at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, holding leadership roles such as Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff. He also currently serves as a Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserve Medical Corps.
“We are excited to add Dr. Stevens to our team,” said Kari Garza, Assistant Administrator at Southwestern Medical Center. “He is an experienced, skilled surgeon, and his background serving Native American and military facilities makes him well-suited to care for the Lawton-Fort Sill area and the similar constituencies we serve.”
Dr. Stevens most recently practiced as Command Surgeon/General Surgeon for the 394th Field Hospital, U.S. Army Troop Medical Center, located at the Soto Cano Air Base in Honduras. Prior to that, he was a surgeon at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico.
He completed surgery residencies at St. Louis University School of Medicine and the University of Missouri School of Medicine, earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, and completed graduate education at Mayo Graduate School.
He earned a Bachelors of Science in Zoology from the University of Oklahoma, and is excited to once again return to the Sooner state.
“It’s great to be back in Oklahoma and start a practice at Southwestern Medical Center, a prestigious, award-winning hospital with a reputation for exceptional service to the Lawton-Fort Sill area,” said Stevens. “I’m excited to get to know this community and look forward to helping those with medical conditions that require surgical expertise.”
