Cameron University students seeking medical care at the CU Student Wellness Center are now being treated by licensed professionals from Southwestern Medical Center (SWMC), thanks to a partnership between CU and SWMC. Quality health care for the Student Wellness Center is provided by SWMC physician assistants and nurse practitioners under the supervision of a physician.
“When it comes providing healthcare to Cameron students, we want only the best,” says Zeak Naifeh, Dean of Students. “This partnership with Southwestern Medical Center ensures that Cameron students who require medical services will be treated by knowledgeable and competent professionals.”
Liz Tomichen, PA-C, will serve as the primary provider at the center. She is a board certified physician assistant who specializes in family medicine. Tomichen received her master’s degree in health sciences from the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa School of Community Medicine Physician Assistant Program. Piettra Alves, DNP, will provide backup coverage as needed. Alves received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Oklahoma City University.
“It has been proven a student’s physical and emotional wellbeing have a direct impact on their academic success. We are committed to providing the student population at Cameron exceptional care every time they visit the clinic,” stated Larry Rodgers, CEO of SWMC.
The Student Wellness Center is available only to current CU students who are enrolled on the Lawton campus. Medical professionals from SWMC are available to provide acute care for minor injuries and illnesses on Mondays and Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 to 11:30 a.m., and Fridays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Medical services include physicals, urinary analysis, strep tests, flu tests, glucose/cholesterol/blood pressure screening, Safe Sex Program, ADHD Clinics and more.
