Southwestern Medical Center Welcomes Shoulder Specialist To Their Medical Staff

Southwestern Medical Center is pleased to welcome board certified orthopedic surgeon, Betsy Nolan, MD to their medical staff.
Dr. Nolan received her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, located in San Antonio, Texas. She completed her residency at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center, located in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Nolan also completed shoulder and elbow fellowships under the direction of Dr. Christian Gerber at the University of Zurich, located in Zurich, Switerzerland and Dr. J. Michael Wiater at the William Beaumont Hospital, located in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Dr. Nolan is an Active Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, President-Elect of the Orthopaedic Society of Oklahoma, a Leadership Fellow with the Oklahoma County Medical Society, President of the Association of VA Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Emerging Leader with the American Orthopaedic Association. She serves on committees within the American Orthopaedic Association and Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and is a faculty sponsor for the Perry Outreach Program and Medical Student Outreach Program. She serves an Associate Editor for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and Consultant Reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
Her clinical interests include all types of problems affecting the shoulder and elbow, with a special interest in complex problems. The combination of the European and American fellowships give her unique and extensive training in newer techniques and implants in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. This includes the Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement, which has been performed in Europe for over 20 years, but received FDA approval for use in the US only in 2004.
Dr. Nolan is involved in teaching with the OU College of Medicine Orthopaedic Surgery Residents and students, and will serves as the Program Director for the Shoulder and Elbow Research Fellowship.
